On January 18, 2026, Passau’s municipal theatre Redoute was the setting for a special cultural evening: the Bergfried Kultur association presented the folk cantata “Recados de Gabriela Mistral” by Chilean composer Jaime Soto León in its European premiere – and we were proud to be the main sponsor.
At the heart of the work is Gabriela Mistral, Chilean poet and Nobel Prize laureate, whose life was shaped by her passionate commitment to education, children, and equal rights. The cantata tells her story through a blend of traditional Andean instruments – tiple, charango, and panpipes – the voices of the South American Camerata Andina Instrumental Ensemble and Passau’s youth choir Messa di Voce, and the vivid narration of Viennese actress Sylvia Rotter. Musical direction: Danilo Cabaluz and conductor Justus Merkel.
As a company based in Passau, it was a particular pleasure for us to support this local cultural project. Music and culture connect people across continents and borders. As a company, we work daily with partners from around the world and experience firsthand how much can be achieved when different cultures and perspectives come together.
