A thin-film distillation plant from VTA Verfahrenstechnische Anlagen GmbH & Co. KG refines these cannabinoid distillates to the highest level of purity and potency. Thin film distillation is a highly developed thermal separation process that is carried out under vacuum. A thin layer of the liquid cannabinoid mixture is “wiped” over a heated surface, allowing for a precise separation of the volatile components. The result is a high purity distillate with minimal thermal decomposition that preserves the essential properties of the cannabinoids.
The Thyracont VD85 compact vacuum gauge (LINK) is used to accurately and precisely measure the vacuum required for the process. With its piezo/Pirani combination sensor, the digital vacuum meter covers a wide measuring range in rough and fine vacuum. An integrated metal facing protects the sensor against contamination such as oil or solvent vapours, while the optimized temperature compensation ensures stable measurement values. The internal data logger stores up to 2,000 measurement values. Via its USB-Interface all data can be easily transferred to a PC or tablet during or after the measurement.
Medical cannabis is used, amongst others, to relieve chronic pain, for the symptomatic treatment of cancer patients and in palliative care as well as for spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis. Thin film distillation is a crucial step in the production of modern cannabis products, obliged to meet the highest quality standards.
