60 Years of Jugend forscht

Jugend forscht Wettbewerb 2025 / Jugen forscht

Motto for the anniversary round of the competition is “Macht aus Fragen Antworten” – Turn questions into answers.

Competition with a tradition

In 1965, the first Jugend forscht competition was launched under the motto “We’re looking for the researchers of tomorrow!”. Since then, the competition has provided children and young people with a unique opportunity to explore their creativity in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), develop their skills, and gain valuable first-hand experience in scientific research.

Promoting Young Talents

The demand for skilled professionals in natural sciences remains high in Germany. Jugend forscht plays a pivotal role in discovering and fostering talents in these areas while inspiring young minds for careers in science and technology. The innovative ideas and solutions presented by the participants lay the foundation for future advancements that help Germany maintain its competitiveness on the global stage.

Since its founding, more than 300,000 young researchers have participated in Jugend forscht. Many of them have carried their passion for STEM subjects into their studies and careers. The connections formed during the competitions have proven invaluable for career orientation and future success.

A Strong Network

The competition’s lasting success is built on a broad support network of businesses, academia, schools, and government at both federal and state levels. Notably, over 250 partners, 5,000 teachers, and around 3,000 volunteer experts, who evaluate the projects, contribute their expertise and commitment.

Thyracont as a Proud Partner

At Thyracont, we have supported Jugend forscht for many years with great enthusiasm. As a sponsor company, we are one of the hosts of the regional competition in Passau. Additionally, an employee from our research and development team, who was once a participant in Jugend forscht himself, now serves as a judge for the competition.

Regional Competition

This year, the regional competition in Passau will take place from February 20–21 at the University of Passau. Winners will qualify for the Bavarian state competition in April, while the national finals will be held from May 29–June 1 in Hamburg.

Impressive Figures and Trends

Once again, the competition recorded impressive numbers in 2025: over 10,000 registrations with more than 5,600 projects, including over 40% female participants – the second-highest percentage of girls in the competition’s history. This year, Biology and Technology emerged as the most popular fields of study.

Best of Luck to All Participants!

We are proud to be part of this success story and wish all participants the best of luck with their projects!
